Taking a social approach when disrupting the travel industry
It was very exciting to be speaking at this session on Social innovation and disruption at World Travel Market a few weeks ago. I still clearly remember being laughed at when mentioning couchsurfing as a threat to hotels in a good old SWOT analysis back at University. When working in the traditional hotel industry it was the same for Airbnb. “Those guys could never go far”, “who would want to stay at someone’s home instead of a hotel?” a hotel manager would tell me. Today Airbnb is the 5th biggest hotel group in the world.
